This year commemorates the 50th Anniversary of Interested Citizens for Voter Registration and the 33rd year for the Annual Original Kingfest which honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The following is a schedule of the 2017 KingFest Activities:

Tuesday, January 10 – 2017 33rd Annual Original ICVR KingFest Kick-Off. This is a community-wide event with the Downtown and West Pine Bluff Rotary Clubs. The Kick-Off guest speaker is Mayor Shirley Moorehead Washington. This will be held at 12:00 noon at  the Pine Bluff Country Club, located at 46th Avenue and Cherry Street. Everyone is invited to this event and there is no charge to attend. Participants do not have to be members of the Rotary Club to attend this event.

Wednesday, January 11 - 2017 33rd Annual Original ICVR KingFest Student Pledge Day Against Gun Violence. This pledge day takes place in the schools of Pine Bluff School District.

Thursday, January 12 - 2017 33rd Annual Original ICVR KingFest Pen or Pencil MLK Birthday Bash. This Birthday Bash will be held at Robert F. Moorehead Middle School, 2602 Fluker St., Pine Bluff, AR. The speaker for this event will be Brianna Allen.

Friday, January 13 - 2017 33rd Annual Original ICVR KingFest Youth/Adult Gospel Extravaganza. This Gospel event begins at 6:30 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church, located at 4500 Faucett Road, Pine Bluff, AR. Come and enjoy a great night of Gospel Music.

Saturday, January 14 - 2017 33rd Annual Original ICVR KingFest Youth/Adult Citywide Service Day, Pen or Pencil King Team Youth-led Community Service Projects. For more information on the youth projects, contact them at 425.785.4960.

Sunday, January 15 - 2017 33rd Annual Original ICVR KingFest Justice Sunday Program. This service begins at 6:00 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church, located at 1002 Ridgway Road, Pine Bluff, AR with Keynote Speaker Tori Hunter.

Monday, January 16 – 2017 33rd  Annual Original ICVR KingFest Marade. This is an annual event that honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The theme is "Living the Dream-Reviving the Spirit for Mentoring."

Applications for the Marade/Parade are available at the Citizens for Voter Registration, Inc. (ICVR).  Applications can be picked up in the ICVR office located at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Service Center, 211 West 3rd Avenue, Suite 109, Pine Bluff, AR or you can email your request for an application at pblcvr@aol.com . You can also get an application by contacting Mary Liddell at 870.643.2383. Deadline to turn in application for the Marade is Thursday, January 12.

Churches, social and civic organizations, youth groups, neighborhood watch groups, sororities, fraternities, school bands, businesses and elected officials are invited to join the 2017 KingFest 33rd Annual Marade that honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through interracial cooperation and community service.

The Grand Parade Marshal is Tori Hunter, former professional baseball center fielder for the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Detroit Tigers. Those that are participating in the Marade are asked to develop and display messages on floats, cars, church buses, banners and signs related to the theme. Awards will be given for the most provocative banner, poster or float using the theme.

Participants are asked to line up at the Jefferson County Courthouse at 1:00 p.m. The route will proceed south on Main Street to 3rd Avenue and east on 3rd Avenue to Convention Center Drive, south on Convention Center Drive ending inside the Pine Bluff Convention Center located at One Convention Center Drive. 
There will also be along with the Marade, the second Annual MLK/Lorenzo Smith Battle of the Bands.
